Reality is an Illusion

About

Artist's Statement

My project consists of the sculpture of a life-size figure made from broken mirrors. The idea of this piece is self-loathing and past trauma. I chose to represent those issues by breaking mirrors into pieces then assemble them together. Everyone has looked in the mirror and hoped to see something different, hoped to change something about themselves. Insecurity and anxiety are issues that are universal and I wanted to make something that would be relatable. The broken mirrors represent the dislike that we may feel towards ourselves, but all these pieces together can still from something beautiful. The other issue I intended to convey through this was past trauma. My goal was to create a piece that signifies that no matter how many time someone is broken, they can still be strong and hopeful. Also, I included neon lights in the eyes of my sculpture to make is look more alive and so that depending on the color it’s set on, it would show a different emotion.
